J.P. Mathes II
JP Mathes II, an acclaimed American Roots & Bluegrass artist and Netflix TV personality, continues to captivate audiences with his toe-tapping energy and memorable banter. Hailing from Elizabethton, TN, JP began his musical journey as a teenager, performing the banjo throughout the southern Appalachian region. His talent quickly earned him a spot in the prestigious East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Pride Band while still in high school.
With a career spanning three decades, JP has represented Appalachian culture across the United States and around the world. His performances have graced iconic venues such as the Grand Ole Opry, The Kennedy Center, CBGB’s in NYC, The Smithsonian Folk Festival, and South by Southwest in Austin, TX. Notably, JP has toured Japan more than any other American roots musician, completing 20 tours to date. JP’s versatility also extends to television, where he was a primary cast member on the Netflix original antiquing series, “Swap Shop.”
Performing with The JP Mathes Band at The Carter Family Fold will be, John Suits (guitar), John Mooneyham (bass), Kathryn Jenkins (fiddle), and Drew Walden (mandolin), take audiences on a musical journey through the history of bluegrass and classic American music.
